Six hundred years ago, Marie of Savoy introduced her favorite grape variety to the Vaud coast. Rescued from obscurity and brought to life by the Henri Cruchon estate, it reveals itself to be spirited and complex.

From Morges, Avenue de Muret leaves the shores of Lake Geneva. As its graceful curve rises, two distinct views of the Vaud coastline come into view. Behind the ultra-modern, cubic buildings stands one of those villages untouched by time. Opposite the church of Échichens lies the Henri Cruchon Estate and its immaculate wine cellar. Raoul Cruchon is waiting for us, with a bottle of Servagnin ready to be opened. “It’s a lovely story,” the oenologist promises.
